METAL MORGAN FROM RENO
Name: L. Morgan Bogumil
Location: Reno, Nevada, USA
Occupation: Legal Assistant
A Legal Assistant from Reno… as a Judas Priest fan that must bring some connotations to mind…
**I knew this was coming! 🙂 Honestly, I never hear about the Judas Priest trial. The law firm I work for is reputable and does not prey on the suffering of others for personal financial gain! My husband, Eric, was at the Priest trial just about every day, showing his support for the “cause” as he says. I do find it humorous and ironic that every day my law office is filled with the music of Judas Priest. No one seems to mind. 🙂
Tell us something about your history as a Judas Priest fan?
My history is short. I only truly discovered Judas Priest in 2005 while rummaging through my husband Eric’s CD collection, looking for something to work out to. I found British Steel and the rest is history. The earliest memory I have, I was around 17 years old and was driving around with some older friends. Breaking The Law came on the radio and someone said, directed at me, do you know who this is? I said, no. OMG, he was shocked to say the least and shouted at me, JUDAS PRIEST! That moment has always stuck with me and now I know why, it was like a foreshadowing of musical future.
That’s great. Sounds like you two don’t have to argue about what kind of music listen to at home?
**Not at all! As a matter of fact I think sometimes I drive him crazy with how much I listen to it. From the moment I wake in the morning until I fall asleep at night, my day is filed with metal music, mostly Judas Priest. I like to put a concert DVD on in the morning and let it play while I get ready for work and Eric always says, this again! He also threatens me with destroying my CDs, but I think we both know this is never going to happen! 🙂
How many times have you seen Priest live, and of those, what was the best experience?
Only 1, August 31, 2008, Mountain View, California, but it was the best concert experience of my life! I should mention that I let my husband have a boy’s night out at the concert in 2005. What was I thinking? I will never miss another tour! I am positive I will be at the Concord, California show this July 31.
You must be very excited about the news that British Steel will be played in its entity this summer?
**OMG, yes! I can’t wait. There are so many songs on that album that I never thought I would get the chance to see performed live. You Don’t Have To Be Old To Be Wise just about fits me perfect. We’ve already got our tickets lined up, stage right (of course), 5th row! I’m so excited about it. I think I’ll buy those pink, leather, studded wristbands I’ve been wanting! Last year was dubbed the “Summer of Priest” at my house and it sounds like we are in for the “Summer of Priest 2”.
Are there any other special Priest-related moments that you remember?
Meeting the band at Mountain View. I’m a little reserved, so it was a big deal for me to be able to meet and speak to K.K. I asked for a hug, and K.K. politely obliged and gave me a huge hug that was really genuine.
You have also a nice scrapbook full of articles about Priest starting from the 80s. Where did you get them?
**Eric found the scrapbook on Ebay for me about a year ago. It’s got 33 pages of articles, clippings, concert tickets, photographs and fan club newsletters. I believe it was created about 1982 by a guy named Richard in Pennsylvania. It has his Judas Priest Fan Club membership card! I’ve searched for Richard, but I’ve not been able to find him. Part of me feels like he put so much love into this scrapbook that I should give it back, but I guess he let it go for a reason. I would love to tell him how much joy it has brought me and that I’m taking good care of it.
Besides of those old clips is there any other music memorabilia you’re collecting?
**Anything metal! Picks, sticks, photographs, autographs, records, Knucklebonz and I recently just added my favourite Barbie. Unbeknownst to me, I was totally metal in the 80’s. My favourite Barbie as a girl was the 1986 Barbie and The Rockers. They recently re-released her. She now stands proudly on my metal board. What’s heavy metal without a babe, you know!
What does the music of Judas Priest mean to you?
Wow, this is one is hard. How can I put this into words? The music of Judas Priest is in my life every day. It brings me peace when I am upset. It makes me happy when I am sad. It gives me a sense of power when I feel weak. It speaks to me on a level I do not quite understand myself. It is like an old fried who knows all my secrets and still accepts me completely. I feel this intense responsibility to defend Judas Priest to anyone who speaks against them. I feel an unwavering loyalty to Judas Priest, like they are a member of my family. I feel like Priest is a part of me, of who I am.
What is your favourite album and song?
Album – Hell Bent For Leather; Songs – 1) Victim of Changes 2) Burnin’ Up
Your message to K.K. and the Millworkers?
First I would like to thank K.K. for his time at the meet and greet in Mountain View. It was awesome and truly one of the best moments of my life. I also would like to say thank you to the Millworkers, you guys do a great job and Kimmo and Pete have been so nice to me. The Steel Mill is the best metal magazine online! I could ramble on in this section for quite a while, but I will try to sum up everything I want to say with this one message, Please Don’t Stop! K.K., please don’t stop writing and recording, as noted in the previous section, Priest means more to me than I could ever put into words. Love Always, Morgan.
